Septum piercing with or without clamps?

every place i have heard of will do anything with clamps except for your earlobes. the clamps really dont hurt at all though, they just sort of pull the skin away a little bit. for a septum piercing, im not sure though when my friend got hers done, they inserted a tube into one of the nostrils to catch the needle so it didnt go through the other wall. they did this without clamps so the place you go might do that.
